Final Presentation

Technology

Well, this class should have been extremely easy for me. Not work wise, but the setting and way it was

carried out, considering I know a lot when comes to computers and such. I've worked with computers

since I was able to use one at a young age. So the

part of this class that involved the blogs, videos,

glogs, and turning in the work was simple for me.

Although simple, I did not do very well when it

came to my time management and putting out full

effort into my classwork and quizzes. I learned that I

have the right tools but I need to be more

responsible with my school work at Yavapai.

Course Reflection

Well, to be honest about this class, I definitely did not take it a serious as I should have. I believe

mostly because it was online, meaning there was no face to face with the instructor of this class. That

made it, I think, easier to be lazy and not really focus on the class. You had to be 100% motivated to

check every week what assignments were due and had to plan accordingly. I do think this is a good tool,

to teach the younger crowd, especially those just out of high school, time management and responsibility

when it came to there school work. Myself, I wasn't near as responsible as i should have been. i would

check assignments last minute and wouldn't put as much effort into them as i should have. This definitely

reflected in my grade and taught me that i needed to be more responsible when it came to this class and

any other online classes I will take in the future. Due to my irresponsibility, I didn't get much learning out

of this class, but it did teach me the lesson that I need to manage my time more wisely and work hard.

This is college.

Draft of Essay #4

Up in the Air is a novel by Walter Kirn as well as a movie starring George Clooney. Both have the same title and one is based off the other yet they are so different. The movie was adjusted to go with the current time when it came out, 2009. It was changed to adapt to everyday life's current economic issues and to appeal to the audience of that time. A story once being about fulfilling your dreams and living your life changed to a film to make the economic crisis the U.S. was going through a little easier to accept.
The book was written in 2001 by Walter Kirns. It was turned into a movie in 2009 and in that process many things about the story changed a little. during the period between when the book was written and the movie produced, America's economy began to fall like a domino effect. In the 2000's many people began to buy houses thinking that the price of homes could go nowhere but up, making profit, but in fact in 2006, housing prices began to drop. Now the owners, realizing they can't pay, foreclosed. This caused the banks to freak out, and created a huge loss for them.
In August of 2007, banks refused to lend to each other. This refusal led to the seven hundred billion dollar bailout and companies like Washington Mutual and AIG became bankrupt. Basically by December of 2008, employment rates were declining more than during the recession in 2001. In 2009, when the film was created, the Government created a plan. It did end the recession, but unemployment never stopped to decline.
Although Walter Kirn wrote the novel, he didn't take part in the screen play whatsoever. All he did was approve of it. Of course, the current situation of the United States changed over the eight years after the book was released. So the film adaptation would need some changes too, to fit in to that period of times society. They took the main character, Ryan Bingham, and changed him from being a man who doesn't care that he is hurting people lives when he terminates them from their job to a man that is concerned for the person and tries to give them hope that their life will go on. That is a big point in the movie that is obviously there to connect with whoever was watching the movie. Many people lost there jobs and were losing them when the movie came out. The movie was changed to give hope during the economic crisis, that life would still move on and things could get better.

Up In the Air

I hadn't noticed initially that this book has been made into a movie, but this did make me want to read it more. although, from the first few pages I started to get the feel that this novel was going to be a boring and tedious thing to read. This story is about Ryan Bingham, who is leaving his job, trying to make a self-help type of book, and wants to work for Mythtech. The book spans over about a week in the the life of Ryan, who is trying to obtain 1 million frequent flier miles before his time in his current job is over. Again i found this read to be rather boring, but then again I'm also far from a big reader and i usually think most books are boring.

Mid-Term Check In

Dear Laura,
Basically with this class I have been doing fairly well. I started slacking the past few weeks and missed my blog comments and post but Im starting to crack down on all my classes so that I end the semester with a good grade. Overall I have liked this class. I like the aspect of it being online and having a sunday deadline each week so we have a lot of time to get our work done and turned in. Again i hope to finish the class with a good grade and knowledge from it I did not have before taking it.

                                                                  Sincerely,
                                                                     Sean Davis
